Prof. Dr. Sanyal is a Senior Psychiatrist with 20 plus years experience, helping thousands of people with serious psychiatric problems. This coupled with strong values and solid work ethics have gone on to make him a very renowned name in the field of Psychiatry in West Bengal. After completing his MBBS from Calcutta Medical College in 1993, Dr. Sanyal went on to complete his M.D. in Psychiatry from Calcutta Medical College under the University College of Medicine, University of Calcutta in 1998. Serving since then as Medical Researcher and Senior Faculty in many medical colleges and institutions. What makes Dr. Debasish Sanyal special is his extensive research works in the field of Psychiatry and allied disciplines with 50 publications in National and International journals to his credit. Added to this, apart from Psychiatry he has collaborated in multidisciplinary research with Neurologists, Physicians, Chest Specialists, Dermatologists and Paediatricians. He also has worked with Anthropologists, in trying to understand the stigma related to mental illness and patients perception about mental illness and its treatment, apart from medical specialities. Dr. Sanyal believes in a comprehensive understanding of psychological problems, both in terms of the way it manifests itself and how it can be managed. Therefore, listening to patients putting in extra time and effort to understand their distress and point of view is an important feature of the way Dr. Sanyal interacts with those seeking help. Also, focusing on various psychological therapies and counselling apart from the rational use of the least amount of medicines is an important way he addresses a patients problems. Taking special care, using minimum medical jargon, to ensure that a patient and his or her family members are given a fair understanding of the problems.
